Overview

Cortex AI IDE is a cross-platform agentic coding workspace that runs AI agents to plan, edit, and verify code changes across multiple files. The agent reads the project, thinks, edits files, runs terminal commands, and verifies results, presenting each change as a reviewable diff. It is designed for developers and small teams building software such as SaaS, e-commerce, fintech, internal tools, and open source projects.

Full Description ▼

The IDE is local-first and uses a bring-your-own-key (BYOK) model, allowing users to connect their own API keys from multiple providers. This means code stays on the user's machine, and users pay model providers directly rather than a subscription. Cortex supports 15+ agent tools, MCP server support, 250+ skills, and project memory to enhance agent capabilities.

It is available as a free download for cross-platform native desktop environments, with source code on GitHub. It can be used to build Python and Django web apps, native desktop and Android apps, and Electron tools in TypeScript, Rust, Go, or other stacks. The agent provides a terminal interface and git review integration.
